Junior Athletics Suspended

In line with all other outside school athletic activities, we unfortunately have no choice but the suspend Junior Athletics till further notice.

As soon as we have any news or information, it will be posted here and on FaceBook.

We deeply regret having to make this decision, but please do feel free to contact us if you need any advise or information..

Barn Elms track remains open at this time.

Junior Athletics – Sunday 15th March

Athletics will go ahead as normal this Sunday morning, 9am at Barn Elms track.

I am sure that you all know procedures regarding the virus and Barn Elms Sports Trust has advised us thus:

‘Increased provision of hand wash in all changing rooms and toilets for all site users.

PLEASE NOTE – if using the taps in the changing rooms, these are operated by a motion sensor in the shower area of the room to prevent waste water. If the tap stops working, walk into the actual main changing area and it will restart again. It is a design flaw based around the assumption of teams in the rooms at all times.

In the event of a school that you attend having an outbreak instance, you are advised not to attend. ‘

We look forward to seeing you on Sunday morning.

Junior Athletics – Summer Season 2020

We look forward to seeing you all on the resumption of athletics on Sunday March 15th.

The format will be the same as last year. We like to start promptly at 9am at Barn Elms track and finish around 10:30. The price will remain the same at £5 per child, per session.

Don’t forget that the final cross-country fixture for the juniors takes place this Sunday (1st March) at Epsom Downs – please contact us for further information if you are interested in your child participating.

Barnes Common Night Orienteering Tuesday 28th January

Come and enjoy an evening of Night Orienteering on Barnes Common. This is probably the easiest of the Night -O’s as you have very distinct map features including the railway lines and Barnes Station.

There are two courses, a 2.5k and and a 5k course. You will need a head torch and preferably a compass. If you are not sure – please ask as there are plenty of Shufflers who have done Night-Os before and sort of know what they are doing (most of the time). You can run in groups and children should be supervised.

The Venue is The Spencer Arms, SW15 1HJ, and there is plenty of parking. Registration opens at 5.45pm, and you can start anytime after 6…it’s electronic timing. The course closes at 8.30pm so give yourself plenty of time. In order to produce the right amount of maps, please say you are going to the event https://www.facebook.com/events/3638541052822994/ It’s only a fiver and three for juniors, so it’s value for money. The discussion over a pint afterwards is always of interest when we can listen to other’s horror stories (hopefully not mine!).

Any questions, please feel free to ask. Hopefully see a few of you there!

East Sheen Street Orienteering Friday 27th December

Join us, in conjunction with Wimbledon Windmilers, for our third post-Christmas Street Orienteering event. Please feel free to invite your friends and family as this is not a public event. The event is free. Although the event starts at 10:30am, it would be helpful if you could be there as early as possible so we can get you registered.

With Street Orienteering you have ONE hour to find as many controls as you can on the supplied map. These could be house names, post box numbers, colours of front door etc. All have a different amount of points, so best to choose the route where you can get as many points within the hour. After one hour you get deducted some of those earned points. Bring with you a pen (and a spare) to write down your answers, and a reliable time piece.

You can run in groups and children are more than welcome to run as long as they have a responsible guardian with them. If you are not sure, or want more information, please ask. There will be quite a few people present on the day who will be only too willing to explain how it works – just look on it as a glorified treasure hunt!

We will adjourn after the event for refreshments at The Hare and Hounds.

Can you please let me know if you are attending so that we know how many maps to produce here: //www.facebook.com/events/2885752488110780/
