Cycle into Spring!

Introducing a new leasing scheme for kids’ bikes.
Kids Bike Xchange is a whole new approach to kids cycling. Instead of buying a brand new bike each time your kid grows out of their old one, KBX will lease you a bike which you can exchange for the next size up the moment you need it. No longer does your child have to put up with a bike that is too big or too small – with KBX, child and bike are always a perfect fit. And that’s more fun for them and more cost effective for you.
All KBX bikes are premium brand, fully serviced, second hand bikes for kids aged approximately 3 to 12. An annual lease costs from £55 to £95 depending on the size. There’s a one-off joining fee of £30 but Sheen Shufflers can save £15 off this fee when you lease your first bike. Use the code SSHUFFLERS15 at the checkout to receive your discount. This code is valid until 30 April 2018 – just right to get your kids ready for spring cycling.

For more information and to browse bikes see the Website or contact us at, tel 020 3002 0904. We’re only just down the road in Twickenham!

New Malden Street Orienteering – Tuesday 13th March

It’s my turn to host a Street-O on behalf of South London Orienteers, so it’s on my home patch of New Malden, the venue being The Royal Oak, 90 Coombe Road, Kingston KT3 4RD.

I hope that plenty of you will come out to support the event – it’s not that far away. You are more than welcome to run with your offspring and also run in groups. All children must be accompanied. If you are not sure what you are doing, let me know and I’ll arrange an impromptu guide to Street-O before the off.

As it’s electronic you can start anytime between 6:30pm and 7:30pm, but you only have one hour to find as many of the clues as possible (each clue has different values). Cost is £4 and £2 for Juniors. You will need to bring a torch or head torch, so you can read the map, see telegraph pole numbers etc., a pen (plus spare) and a decent timepiece so you don’t go over the hour (as this incurs penalty points).

They are really fun events – like a glorified treasure hunt!

Hopefully see lots of you on the evening.

If you need any more information – please ask.

Cross Country Cancelled

It has just been announced that Sunday’s Downs Cross-Country League fixture at Epsom has been CANCELLED!

That was the last fixture of the 2017/18, our inaugural, season, so well done to all our Juniors who took part.  We’ll be back again next season.

Downs Cross Country League Sunday 4th March

Just a reminder that there is cross-country this Sunday on Epsom Downs.

The weather is supposed to improve as the weekend progresses, so we hope that you will all come out to support our final fixture of 2017/18.

The first race off is at 10:45.

If anything changes weather wise – we will let you know as soon as we do – otherwise, we’ll see you there!

Downs Cross-Country League Results

Well done to all those who took part in the third of the Junior Downs Cross-Country League fixture last Sunday 18th February. It was certainly a cold and blustery day.

The Under 13 Boys finished 9th out of 12 teams.

The Under 11 Boys finished 8th out of 9 teams.

The next fixture is this coming Sunday 4th March. Details will appear here on this fixture later in the week. Needless to say, as it is the last of the four 2017/18 fixtures, it would be excellent to have a big turn out!

Downs Cross Country League Sunday 18th February

The third race in the four race Downs Cross Country League series takes place on Sunday 18th February. All the races will take part on Epsom Downs with the start/finish off the car park at Tattenham Corner Road and Old London Road.

The categories and start times are:

Under 11s (Years 5 & 6) – 2.2k 10:45
Under 13s (Years 7&8) – 2.5k 11:15 est.
Under 15s (Years 9&10) – 2.5k 11:30 est

You will need to wear a club top, which can be purchased on the day (£20), otherwise, we hope to have a few spare tops that you can use but must be handed back.

Our coaches, Lis, Steve and Bob should be in attendance at the event, so if it’s your first time, just look for us.

We have had some very encouraging Junior and Senior parkrun times recently, so it would be good to take some of those performances into the cross-county. If you haven’t run or registered with us in for the cross-country, it would save us extra administration on the day if you could let us know beforehand if you are running, by either speaking to one of us, via this website of via The Sheen Shufflers Juniors Facebook page, though you can enter on the day.

For reference, the Long and Lat of the meeting point at Epsom Downs is 51.3107415,-0.2463780. Just stick those numbers into Google Maps. It’s basically the Hut Car Park, south of the also noted Tea Hut Car Park. Just cross the race track of the race course and that’s where all meet and the start and finish of all the races is

Junior parkrun Success

Well done to the following Juniors, including Ava and Emily, who got a ladies one, two (finishing 4th and 10th overall in a field of 133 athletes) at Moormead Junior parkrun last Sunday.

4th 1st F Ava Oldfield 9:27
10th 2nd F Emily Hough 9:57
12th 4th F Jaiya Sakharet 9:59
14th 6th F Siri Sakaret 10:02

Next Sunday sees the third fixture in the Cross Country League at Epsom Downs. Details to follow later.

Night Orienteering – Barnes Common – Tuesday 23rd January

The venue is : The Spencer Arms 237 Lower Richmond Road, London SW15 1HJ. Barnes Common should be familiar territory to many of you so come and give it a go!

There are two courses, 5K and 2.5K, Children can run if accompanied by an adult or responsible guardian. If you let me know if you are coming we will arrange for an informal introduction to an orienteering ‘master-class’ before you start. If you are still unsure, let me know and we can try and arrange company around the route.

Basically, you are given a map with clues on it and you have to navigate to the clues ‘check-points’ and electronically check in. You will need a head torch, whistle and a compass. The cost is £5 entry, £3 for juniors. Registration between 18:00 and 19:25, and as it is electronic timing, you go when you are ready.

These are fun but frustrating events (when you can’t find a check-point). You can run in groups, so please don’t feel you have to run on your own.
