Downs Cross-Country League 5th November 2017

This was our first appearance in the Downs League and a huge learning curve for the both the runners that took part and the coaches, Steve and Louise, who were in attendance. The standard was extremely high with some of the best young athletes in Surrey taking part. We hope that all our juniors enjoyed themselves and will be coming back for more. Our next fixture, at the same venue, takes place on Sunday 3rd December. We will publish all the details nearer the time.

Despite only having one runner in the U15 Girls, Alex Mortimer, we managed to finish 9th team out of 11. Alex finished 20th Lady.

In the U13 boys, again we only had one runner, Svante Jonsson who finished 34th. In the girls U13 we had two runners, Mia Oldfield who finished in 33rd place, ahead of Lily Nash in 42nd. The U13 girls finished in 10th place out of 12. It’s three to count and you get penalty points if you are short of runners, so in this race we would have been a lot higher if we had had a third counter.

In the U11 Boys we managed to get a full team of three out. Emilio Olvera was first Shuffler home in 41st place, closely followed by Sebastian Mano in 55th with Luca Barkan two places behind in 57th. This was a hotly contested race with some very good athletes, so our boys did really well to finish in 10th place.

In the U11 Girls 8YO Ava Oldfield finished in an extremely creditable 24th place, with Emily Hough, another 8YO running with U11s, 8 places behind her in 32nd. Again, with another runner in this category our girls would have finished higher than the eighth place that they achieved.

Well done to all those that took part!
